The secondary schools national film competition organised by the Malta Cine Circle is again being funded by the Vodafone Malta Foundation. Held every two years, the competition is open to secondary schools, with the aim of encouraging media awareness and love for cinematography, enhancing individual skills as well as team work, and push the use of film production within the National Curriculum.

The productions submitted for the competition treat a number of areas including social life in Malta, Malta’s heritage and history, environmental issues and issues that concern young people. This year submissions could also focus on combating poverty and social exclusion, in line with this year’s focus by the European Union.

Participating students were given training in the production of short film with a short series of workshops held prior to the filming exercise. The winning teams of students will clinch prizes in the name of their school.

The Awards Night scheduled for 28 May will present prizes for best production, editing, direction, photography, sound, best script and best acting performance.

Since its inception in 1952, the Malta Cine Circle has organised several national and international competitions including the National Film Competition and the Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival.
