The General Workers Union said the protest activity by the unions in Valletta had helped the government understand better the difficulties industries and hotels had found themselves in because of the extraordinary tariff burdens.
It said that statements by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association, and the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry confirmed the truth of what the GWU had said, that there had not been sufficient consultations and discussions with the social partners before the government went ahead and decided on the tariffs increase.
The GWU added that it will now be vigilant with those industries which received government aid, to ensure they do not continue threatening the jobs and conditions of work of their employees.
